With Fat Tuesday right around the corner, what better way to celebrate than bringing a little of New Orleans flavor into your home with a NOLA favorite…BBQ Shrimp!!
Like every great recipe, there are endless variations. No matter how many I try, they never taste quite the same as they do in New Orleans. I was lamenting this fact to our taxi driver on a recent trip to New Orleans and he let me in on a little secret…Louisiana New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp Sauce Mix!!! This little packet is awesome and can be found at many grocery stores in our area. The recipe is quick and easy with very little clean up.
1 package Louisiana New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp Sauce Mix
2 sticks butter or margarine
½ cup water
½ cup Worcestershire sauce
2 ½ pounds unpeeled, uncooked shrimp
For added flavor, layer lemon and/or onion slices over the shrimp before baking.
In a saucepan, melt 2 sticks of butter or margarine over low heat. Add ½ cup of water, ½ cup of Worcestershire sauce, and the Louisiana New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp Sauce Mix. Simmer for 5 minutes on low heat.
Place 2 ½ pounds of unpeeled, uncooked shrimp into a baking dish, with shrimp not more than 2 layers deep.
Pour sauce mixture over shrimp and stir well. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes, turning shrimp several times. Ensure shrimp is thoroughly cooked and opaque in color (to 145 degrees). Serve with French bread for dipping.
