10 Organizational Tips To Simplify Your Life

10 Organizational Tips To Simplify Your Life

  1. Gift Wrap Storage: to prevent leftover wrapping paper from ripping or unraveling, slide a cut leg of old tights over the roll.
  2. Drawer Dividers: cut shoe boxes in half, along the length or width, and fill the compartments with folded socks, underwear, or other personal garments.
  3. Cupboard Organizer: use a file sorter to store cookie sheets, cutting boards, and pot lids. This inexpensive desk accessory will save space and put a stop to cabinet avalanches!
  4. Key Coder: ID each of your keys with its very own shade of nail polish. No more fumbling for the right key at the front door.
  5. Clothes Closet: turn all of the hangers backwards. When you wear a piece of clothing, turn it back around facing the right direction after laundering. At the end of the year, any clothing on which the hanger has not been turned needs to go!
  6. Laundry Room: take advantage of the space between your washer and dryer. Make (or buy) a slim rolling cart to organize all of your laundry supplies.
  7. Garage: get the gardening tools out of the corner or from leaning haphazardly against the wall. Use PVC pipe to create a tool holder for safely storing them instead.
  8. Rule of Five: whenever you are cleaning a room, get rid of at least five items, whether it is an old magazine, socks without a match, food storage containers without a lid, expired coupons, dried-out markers or pens, take-out packets of ketchup/dressing/soy sauce that have been in your fridge forever…you get the idea!
  9. Paper Box for Kids: when your child wants to keep “everything” he brings home from school, have him put the papers/artwork in a box (an empty one from a case of paper works great). Keep only what fits in the box and when the box is full, have your child throw out the items he no longer wants. At the end of the school year, you will have a few treasures to keep!
  10. If you get it out, put it away. If you open it, close it. If you finish it, replace it. If it’s full, empty it. If you take it off, hang it up. If it’s dirty, wash it. Even when you don’t think you have the time, doing these simple things will help save you an amazing amount of time and keep you organized every day of the year!
