GRANDVIEW BREWERY TOUR

When: Through January 2, 2014, 6:30-9:45 p.m.
Where: Barley’s Smokehouse & Brewpub, 1130 Dublin Rd.Columbus, 43215
What: The Grandview area is nothing short of the city’s premier incubator for the craft of micro brewing. Starting 15 years ago with Barley’s Smokehouse and Brewpub, the area has seen tremendous growth in craft brew destinations, offering a surprising range of intriguing styles of beer and brewing methods. We’ll start our tour at Barley’s Smokehouse and Brewpub for beer sampling and light apps. From there we’ll explore a couple of the newer microbreweries in the neighborhood. Stops may include Four String Brewing, Zauber Brewing Company and Pigskin Brewing Company. We’ll end our tour at the Ohio Taproom where we’ll be able to taste from a selection of harder to find Ohio-only microbreweries. This tour is an introduction to craft brewing in the region and is designed to be fun, educational and delicious. This brewery tour is priced at $55. It includes tastings at 3 breweries, samples at the Ohio Taproom, a light snack, van transportation between all of the stops and a guide with plenty of local beer knowledge. It lasts approximately 3.5 hours. This tour will start on October 17 and run on Thursday and Friday evenings at least twice a month. This tour runs year round. GEORGE BELLOWS AND THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE

When: Through January 4, 2014, Tuesday-Sunday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Thursday until 8:30 p.m.
Where: Columbus Museum of Art, 480 E. Broad St. Columbus, 43215
What: The Columbus Museum of Art celebrates one of the city’s best loved native sons with George Bellows and the American Experience. CMA’s Bellows collection is recognized as the largest in the world. The exhibition showcases the artist’s vibrant, groundbreaking works in a breathtaking show not to be missed. Bellows played shortstop for the Buckeyes before moving to New York City and taking the art world by storm. Following on the heels of a major exhibition which traveled to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Royal Academy in London, George Bellows and the American Experience reveals why this Columbus native was a master painter. The world of his paintings comes to life through period photographs, descriptions by his friends, thoughts from his own record book, as well as caricatures and conservation studies. MONSTER JAM

COLUMBUS SYMPHONY MASTERWORKS: RAVEL & BRUCKNER

When: January 10-11, 2014, Friday-Saturday 8 p.m.
Where: Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State St. Columbus, 43215
What: In this fascinating concerto written as a gift to pianist Paul Wittgenstein who lost his right arm in WWI, Ravel ingeniously wrote a one-handed piano part that sounds like it is being played by two hands and also demonstrates his love of jazz. Bruckner’s final, unfinished symphony is a richly scored, stirring question for emotional fulfillment.

DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. CELEBRATION

When: Monday January 20, 2014
Where: Veterans Memorial and City Hall
What: Columbus celebrates the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a gathering at City Hall, followed by a march across the Broad Street bridge to Veterans Memorial. There, the community can watch a free program featuring several vignettes, from theatrical reenactments to the Martin Luther King Children’s Choir.

COLUMBUS CHILDREN’S THEATRE: THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA

When: January 9-26, 2014, Thursday-Friday 7:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday-Sunday 1-2 p.m., 3-4 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.

What: Once upon a time there was a Prince who wanted to marry a princess, but there was always something wrong with each princess he met, and his mother, the Queen, could not be certain they were real princesses. One stormy evening a young woman drenched with rain seeks shelter in the Prince’s castle. She claims to be a princess, so the Queen decides to test their unexpected guest by placing a pea in the bed she is offered for the night. Join Columbus Children’s Theatre’s Professional Touring Company in this humorous retelling of the popular fairytale featuring audience participation. Cost for tickets: $11-$21.
